Felsted pupils have recorded superb results in their GCSE exams, following on from strong results in A Levels and the International Baccalaureate earlier this summer.
Headmaster, Mr Chris Townsend, comments; “I am hugely proud of the efforts of this group of students and their teachers, as they have become the first ever year group from Felsted to top 50% A and A* grades at GCSE.  This means that more than one in two of every GCSE exams taken achieved at least an A grade.

A remarkable 20 students have achieved at least 8 A/A* grades, and 11 students achieved a full set of A/A* grades. There is no secret formula to this success - it is based on hard work of students and teachers, supported by parents and pastoral teams at school.  It is particularly pleasing to see this level of academic performance alongside all the many other things that the school continues to do to such a high level, including Music, Drama, Sport and Service.”
Among the stand out performers were Hannah Barratt, who gained 11 A*s, Lara Peck (10 A*), Tom Carrington (10 A*), Angus Muir (9 A*, 1 A), Georgina Stevens (8 A*, 2A) and Matthew Morley-Jacob (8 A*, 2A).  Many others have also outperformed their predictions.
  • 97 students took GCSEs this summer
  • 50% A* or A grades
  • 74% A* to B grades
  • 92% A* to C grades (national average of 69%)
  • 98% achieved five A* to C grades
  • 93% gained 5 A*-C including Maths and English
  • The following departments gained over 90% A* to B grades: English, German, Latin, Music and Theatre Studies. Science was also particularly strong, with Biology gaining 100% A* to C grades (83% A* to B grades), Physics 97% A* to C and Chemistry 85% A* to C. Maths reported 96% A* to C grades (national 63.3%), with 76% gaining A* to B grades.

Hannah Barratt was Felsted’s top performer, with a grand tally of 11 A*s and 2 A grades. As an Academic and Music Scholar, Hannah will be studying A Levels in German, French, History, English and Latin, with a view to studying Modern Foreign Languages at university. Hannah also fully immerses herself in music, and is a member of the school choir and orchestra.

Triplets, Tom, Ben and Elicia Carrington amassed 18 A* and 6 A grades between them! Tom and Ben, both academic scholars balance their studies with playing1st team hockey, while Elicia, as an Art Scholar, wishes to pursue her talent in fine art. Mum to the three, Ann, is delighted that they have all achieved their best; “I am so proud of them – they are three very different children with distinct strengths. Felsted has been the perfect environment for them to pursue their individual talents.” All three will be studying A Levels at Felsted.

Lara Peck gained a superb full sweep of 10 A* grades and will be studying A Levels in Economics, Maths, Chemistry and Latin, with a view to a possible career in Law. As an academic and sports scholar at Felsted, Lara also plays 1st team hockey and netball.

Matthew Morley-Jacob and Angus Muir are delighted with their top sweep of A grade results! They are currently on holiday inNorfolk together, playing in Hunstanton Tennis Tournament. Both keen sportsmen at Felsted, they will be going on to study A Levels; Matthew in Physics, Maths, Geography and Economics with a view to studying Geography at University, and Angus in Philosophy, Spanish, Business Studies and Theatre Studies with a view to reading Law at university.
