Felsted pupils were awarded third place out of a total 76,400 entrants at the Coca-Cola Real Business Challenge, held in London last week. The team consisted of Year 10 pupils, Tom Blanc, Alex Manson, Will Barker, and Harry Raffan.

The Felsted team progressed to the final of the competition after winning the East Anglia Regional finals at the OPEN in Norwich in February. The National Final was a two stage process with a two minute ‘elevator pitch’ held at the Houses of Parliament and also a four minute pitch presented at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre. The boys were also treated to an overnight stay and a show courtesy of Coca-Cola.

Their brief was to design and market a drink that reflects the spirit of the Special Olympics to be held in Los Angeles 2015. The Felsted team created Tropicombo, a socially conscious and environmentally friendly fruit drink. The boys responded extremely well to the judges’ tough questions, securing their third place prize.

Mrs Joy McArdle, Director of Enterprise at Felsted, comments; “To present their ideas as clearly as they did in such a high pressure environment is a huge credit to the boys. The judges were extremely impressed with the team’s performance and sound business strategy. The team fully deserve their award, for all the hard work put in. Being able to visit parliament was a huge honour for the boys, and an experience they will remember!”
