Felsted School has been awarded the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) and the ISM Trust's Bronze Certificate in recognition of having 10% of the school’s Year 11 students achieving an A*-C in GCSE music. In fact, over 90% of Felsted's students who sat GCSE Music last year gained A*-B grades.

The ISM is a nationally recognised subject association for music and this Bronze award recognises the importance of Music at Felsted, from the links to Junior Guildhall to their state-of-the-art music school.

This award highlights how pupils have benefited from the musical opportunities available to them here at Felsted. Music is central to school life and this award goes a long way in supporting and encouraging an even higher proportion of our pupils to get involved in music at GCSE level and beyond.

Felsted’s Director of Music, Mr Peter Bennett commented.

The strength of Felsted’s Music is reflected in the number of students achieving high grades in a wide variety of instruments. One of these is Year 8 pupil, Sana Abu-Jabir, who recently passed her Grade 8 Percussion with distinction. Sana has only been playing for three years, after being introduced to the instrument by Assistant Director of Music at Felsted Preparatory School, Rachel Clarke.

At age nine, Sana was also encouraged to audition for Junior Guildhall in London, where Felsted holds a unique partnership, and she is now the youngest member of the Junior Guildhall Symphony Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble.

Sana, who is the leader of the Preparatory School Jazz Band and has played in the Senior School Orchestra since Year 6, has also recently played both at the Royal Opera House and to HRH Princess Alexandra at Cadogan Hall!

The last three years studying music at Felsted and Junior Guildhall have been amazing. I am so happy that I have passed my Grade 8 Percussion with Distinction and am now working towards my Grade 8 Piano, Grade 8 Orchestral Percussion and Grade 7 Viola.

Sana Abu-Jabir.
