Members of the Sixth Form and Felsted’s Junior Academic Society were treated to a workshop from the US Ambassador to Great Britain, Matthew Barzun.
It was an invaluable experience for the pupils, who had the opportunity to discuss and address various world issues, as well as express their most pressing worries about American political policies. It was a poignant moment when the students realized how many concerns they shared.

U6th student Faye Calow commented: “Ambassador Barzun actively encouraged the students to look at things from another point of view, and I was surprised to learn the extent to which many of my ideas about American Foreign Policy were ill-formed. We were educated on the importance of cooperation and diplomacy as well as reminded of the historical events that were improved through the co-operations of our nations. It was a thought-provoking observation which reinforced the significance of Ambassador Barzun’s duties.”

Felsted Classics teacher Elizabeth McLaren, who masterminded the event, commented“This was one of the best talks I have heard at Felsted because we came away with a transformed view of the United States. Misconceptions were banished and students were totally engaged in discussing pressing issues. Matthew Barzun is playing a vital role in improving Anglo-American relations in the future.”
