Dr Mike Walker, only the twenty-seventh Headmaster of Felsted, will retire from office in August 2015. He will be 60 in November 2015, and has advised Mr John Davies, the Chairman of Governors, that he intends to retire as Headmaster with effect from 31st August 2015, after seven very successful years at the helm of Felsted School.
Mr John Davies, Chairman, writes: ‘A man of considerable vision, energy and drive, Mike has made a great contribution to Felsted during his time as Headmaster. He has raised the profile of the School locally, nationally and internationally, pupil numbers have increased and the School is significantly over-subscribed. Under his leadership the School has attained outstanding inspection outcomes and we are grateful to him for developing a number of international initiatives such as Global Membership of the Round Square and the partnership with Magic Bus. He has introduced a number of teaching and learning initiatives and it is very pleasing to note that over the last three years, Felsted has been in the top 10% of all schools nationally in terms of academic “Value Added”. Under his Headship, a number of truly memorable events have occurred in celebration of the School’s 450th anniversary, notably the Royal Visit by Her Majesty The Queen and his Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh in May 2014 and a Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral in the Spring of 2014.
Mike has much to be proud of during his tenure of office at Felsted and there will be an opportunity for us to celebrate his years of Headship later in the academic year. Preliminary arrangements are already in place for the appointment of his successor.’
Dr Walker comments ‘Felsted School is not only in excellent shape, but is set on a course of continuous improvement and enhancement, with a highly qualified and ambitious Governing Body and Senior Leadership Team, and the opportunity to appoint a first class and ambitious leader to take up the baton. I have no doubt the School will go on to achieve even greater things. We can give absolute assurance of continuity of provision and of ‘business as usual’ throughout this year and in the coming years. I would also like to assure you of my own continued unswerving commitment to serving Felsted throughout the rest of this academic year.’
