GCSE Results 2017

Felsted pupils have recorded more outstanding results in their GCSE exams, following on from excellent results in A Levels and the International Baccalaureate Diploma earlier this summer.
 
Among the standout performers were Shola Akindayini, Chloe Green, Peter Hipkin, James Austin, Matthew Hudson-Lund, Barnaby Stoner, Bertie Webster, Siosi Tameifuna, George Harvey, Amber Aitken, Harry Sturge, Bram Emsley and Silas Turner Jones. Many others also outperformed their predictions.

Summary Highlights

  • 98 students took GCSEs this summer
  • 40% A* or A grades
  • 71% A* to B grades
  • 93% A* to C grades
  • 96% achieved five A* to C grades
  • 95% gained 5 A*-C including Maths and English
  • The following departments gained over 85% A* to B grades: English Language, English Literature, Greek, Latin, Maths, Religious Studies and Theatre Studies

Felsted’s top performer was Shola Akindayini who gained ten A*s and two As. Shola has aspirations to study Medicine and will be studying A Levels at Felsted in Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Latin. She balances her studies with a keen love of dance, performing in the Felsted Dance show earlier this year. Shola commented; “ I am so happy that my hard work has paid off, I couldn’t have done it without the support of all my teachers”.

Close behind were Chloe Green and Peter Hipkin, who gained 9 A*s and 2 A grades respectively. Chloe is also a keen musician and cricketer, playing Clarinet in the Felsted orchestra and reaching the national indoor cricket final at Lord’s with the Felsted U15s in 2016. 
Chloe also has aspirations to study medicine and will be joining best friend Shola at Felsted Sixth Form to take A Levels in Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Latin. Peter Hipkin gained a Felsted record in his Latin result; achieving a perfect 400/400 UMS score. 
Peter aims to study History, Economics and Spanish at A Level, with a view to studying History at university. Peter particularly enjoys getting involved in Model United Nations at Felsted and balances his studies with playing hockey and cricket for the school.

James Austin gained 8 A*s and 2 A grades. James, an academic scholar, balances his studies teaching junior cadets and playing 2nd team cricket for Felsted. He is also a member of the academic society and CCF. He will be staying at Felsted next year to study 4 A Levels in Economics, Government & Politics, French and Maths.

Matt Hudson-Lund achieved a clean sweep of A grades (7 A*s, and 3 As) and will be going on to study 4 A Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Geography at Felsted. Matt balances his academic work with playing rugby and hockey for the school.

Barnaby Stoner achieved an awesome 7 A*s, 3 As and 1 B grade, a superb achievement whilst being a member of the England U17 Hockey Performance Squad. Barnaby, a sports scholar, will be studying Maths, Economics and Geography A Levels from September.

Bertie Webster secured a whopping 7 A*s, 3 As and 1 B grade and will be staying on at Felsted Sixth Form to study Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Design Technology.  He has high aspirations to study either Engineering or Architecture at Cambridge and has been spending the summer setting up 'Aquaponics' (crayfish farming) on his family farm.

Siosi Tameifuna gained an impressive 6 A*s, 4 As and 1 B grade and will be spending her sixth form years studying in Hong Kong, where her family have just moved. Both Siosi and Shola studied Greek GCSE off timetable, securing an additional A* grade each for their academic portfolios. Siosi fully involved herself in Felsted School life, particularly in the music department where her beautiful voice was able to shine in many concerts throughout the year.

George Harvey secured 5 A*s, 4 As and 1 B grade. An academic scholar, George has a particular passion for Science and Design Technology, which he will be studying at Felsted from September (Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Design Technology A Levels).

Amber Aitken gained 5 A*s, 3 As and a B grade. A sport scholar and natural linguist she is particularly happy to have secured A*s in French, Latin, Spanish and English. Amber is currently on Hockey Tour in South Africa, returning next week to start studying the International Baccalaureate Diploma at Felsted, majoring in Economics, Spanish and Sports Science whilst studying Maths, French and English at standard level.

Harry Sturge gained 4 A*s, 5 As and 1 B grade, a fantastic achievement considering his commitment to top level sport. Harry is a sports scholar at Felsted, playing for the 1st teams in rugby, cricket and hockey. However, it is at rugby that he particularly excels, as an England Academy Player and member of the Saracens U18 squad. He will be studying A Levels in Maths, Physics and DT at Felsted.

Bram Emsley achieved a clean sweep of As (4 A*s and 4As). Bram particularly enjoys playing bass guitar in the Felsted Funk Band and will be staying at Felsted to take A Levels in History, Maths and English Literature. He also enjoys cricket and rugby and is a member of the Felsted Academic society and CCF.

Silas Turner- Jones gained 3 A*s, 7 As and 1 B grade. Silas is on track to achieve his ambitions to study engineering at university as he has just secured a prestigious Arkwright Scholarship. He will be taking A Levels in Maths, Physics and Design Technology.

There are some exceptional results this year, with 23 pupils achieving 7 or more A* and A grades, and 40% of all GCSE exams being graded at A or A*. English and Maths again excelled, with pass rates of 97% and 98% respectively, and 55 A* grades shared across these subjects. English Language, English Literature, Greek, Latin, Maths, Religious Studies and Theatre Studies all achieved more than 85% A*-B. Achieving these results requires a team effort from all the teaching staff, pastoral support, parental commitment, and, of course, the hard work and determination of the students in achieving these results.
