Felsted's Emma Jones, is the latest winner of the national Heffer’s Writing Competition after submitting her creative writing piece entitled ‘Helplessness’.
Emma is the second talented Felsted pupil to take this title, after her fellow classmate Henry Dean won with his creative writing homework earlier this year! The competition theme was ‘Temples, Tombs and Treasure’, and not only did Emma win the first prize, but fellow Yr 9, Hannah Cowie was runner up. Judged by experienced booksellers, the girls’ work will now be published in the Heffers’ newsletter, viewed by over fifteen thousand readers.
The English Department, which gained 90% A*-Bs at GCSE last summer, is keen to motivate the pupils into creative writing and have been encouraging them to enter each competition as homework tasks.
The girls’ English Teacher Mr Joe Johnson commented,“The whole class are proud of Emma's and Hannah's success, especially on the back of the last competition. It shows how well the students have taken to creative writing and how they are inspiring each other.”
